ALEJANDRO FATUR

ALEJANDRO FATUR was born in 1962.  He lives in Bariloche, Patagonia, Argentina where he works as a teacher, as a performing musician and as a recording engineer.

He began his musical studies at the ISEDET and continued at the Manuel de Falla Conservatoire. He also took an intensive guitar course with Carlos Piegari.

While a student of Physics at the Balseiro Institue in Bariloche, on a scholarship granted by the National Atomic Energy Comission, he studied musical composition and the flute with JOSÉ LUIS TUBERT whom he regards as his main teacher in the art of music.

In 1988 he graduated as a physicist at the University of La Plata and as a professor at the Catholic University.  He continued his musical studies at the school sponsored by SADAIC (Argentine Association of Authors, Performers and Composers). He studied harmony with Horacio Moscovici and perfected his skills with the charango and the guitar under Toro Stafforini. He also studied with Jorge Cumbo and Jorge Milchberg.

Alejandro’s musical work is centered on expressing himself through recordings.  In a similar manner to a painter working on his canvas, he superimposes tracks he has recorded playing the guitar, the charango, the flute, the sikus (native pan flute), the antara and other instruments.  This technique allows him to play duettes, trios, quartets, etc. with himself.  A distinctive trait in his compositions is the use of natural sounds captured out of doors which he actively incorporates into the music.  This enables him to create rich atmospheres which tend to evoke in his listeners images and feelings more as a movie would, rather than a straight forward musical composition.
